The Phoenix Asteroids is an homage to the film Dark Star by John Carpenter, but more specifically a character from that film, Talby. Talby is a character i admire. Isolated in his post, constantly looking deep into space, admiring the asteroids, stars, planets and everything in between, frustrated with the other crew members on the ship who are mostly looking to finish their mission and get home without taking a moment to really realize how mysterious and vast the cosmos are. Whenever I look up at night, I have the same feelings of nostalgia and isolation that Talby desires: My own private conversation with the stars.

The music started off being an ambient piece, but over time I added a track here and there to eventually become what it is now. It's also the first time I really REALLY tried to record, mix, and master in an efficient way. I like how it turned out and I hope you do to. Thanks for listening and may your conversation with the stars be enlightening.
